Using the ‘Same As’ Functionality in 12d Model
The ‘Same As’ feature in 12d Model streamlines workflows by allowing you to quickly match attributes like colours, models, line styles, and more from existing elements in your project. Here’s how to make the most of this versatile tool.
1. Accessing ‘Same As’ from the Panel
Most choice boxes in 12d Model include a [Same As]
option at the bottom of the list. For example:
- To draft in the same colour as an existing line on the screen:
- Open the colour selection box.
- Scroll down and select
[Same As]
- Click on the desired line in your view to match its colour.
This process applies to names, models, colours, line styles, and other attributes.
2. Using the Middle Mouse Button Shortcut
For an even faster method, you can use the middle mouse button (MB) to activate the ‘Same As‘ functionality directly:
Steps for Using MB Shortcut
- Click in the Field: Hover over the field (e.g., Model, Colour, View) where you want to apply the ‘Same As’ value and click the middle mouse button.
- Select from the View: Click on an object in your view, such as a string, plot frame, or line. The corresponding value (e.g., model name, colour) will automatically populate the field.
- Confirm the Selection: Press
<Enter>
to validate the field and trigger any associated actions.
Examples of Supported Fields
The middle mouse button shortcut works for many panel fields, including:
- Views: Automatically populate the view name by selecting an object from that view.
- Models: Extract the model of a selected object.
- Colours: Match the colour of an existing element.
- Line Styles: Copy the line style of a selected feature.
- Other Fields: Includes names, justify, text styles, text units, plotters, and sheet sizes (from plot frames).
