  • Groups attribute path – Path to attribute that provides the Group value.

IFC Groups can be used to “group” objects together.  For example, individual objects such as a road Sign + Post + Footing can be added to a single Group.  An object may also be assigned to multiple IFC Groups.  Depending on software reading the IFC, you can then view entities By Group.

A 12d Attribute Group is used to hold information for the IFC Group.  The IFC Group is then defined as an attribute where the attribute Name is the IFC Group Name, and is assigned an Integer value;

  • 1 = include
  • 0 = exclude

In the example below, the attribute IfcGroups/SIGN02 creates the IFC Group: SIGN02.  When exporting the IFC, the group name IfcGroups is entered on the panel as the Groups Attribute Path.

Any object with the this attribute and the value: 1, will be assigned to the group in the IFC file.
